Nest’s strapline, ‘saving energy never goes out of style’, has never been truer.

In the UK, analysts are reporting that households could see an increase of nearly £100 for a typical annual fuel dual bill in 2019. More and more energy customers, dazed and confused by tariff options and energy providers’ marketing hooks, are looking for ways to save money. So, is smart tech the answer?

Alongside British Gas’ Hive product, the Nest Learning Thermostat™ is gathering pace as the market leader in smart thermostats. These devices connect your heating system to the internet – letting you change the temperature or switch your heating off on your smartphone, tablet or computer when you’re out and about.

The really clever bit is that the thermostat learns the temperature that you like when you’re at home and then programs itself. It then automatically turns down the heating when you’re away to help save energy. You can also configure the app to send you tips and prompts to reduce the amount of energy you’re using.

Admittedly, the thermostat unit costs a fraction more than a standard one, however the potential energy savings are very attractive indeed. Nest claims that UK customers could save anywhere between 8.4% to 16.5% (based on aggregated data of an average customer base who kept their homes at 20 ÂşC all the time and who turned the heating down to 9Âş C for seven hours at night).

The beauty of Nest is that not only do their products perform from an energy saving point of view and help you manage your energy to save money, they look incredibly stylish too.  And that’s no small thing. If you have spent time and money on home improvements and making the interior of your home look exactly as you want it, why would you want to fix anything to the wall, door or ceiling that doesn’t look good?

The same applies to Nest’s wider range of products, all of which have brilliant design features and are designed to look fantastic in your home (goodbye sad, old white plastic doorbell!).

We’ve rounded up the best of Nest’s other products:

Nest Hello™ – a video doorbell that notifies you when someone is at your door, even when you’re not at home. Alerted via your mobile, you can choose to have a natural conversation with HD Talk and Listen. If you are not available to ‘answer the door’, you can set a list of pre-recorded responses. Its ‘Quiet Time’ function lets you turn off your chime using the app, but still allows you to receive notifications if someone is at the door.

Nest Protect™ – a smoke and carbon monoxide alarm that tests itself automatically and lasts for up to a decade. It’s also the first home alarm on the market that you can silence from your phone without needing to climb up onto a chair! The alarm alerts your phone and tells you what it has detected.

Nest Secure™ and Nest Cam™ – a range of alarm systems and security cameras, for indoor and outdoor use. Depending on your requirements – which could be as simple as keeping an eye on your pet to creating ‘activity zones’ in your property, there is a range of cameras to choose from. Features include night vision, 24/7 cloud recording, phone alerts, 3-hour snapshot history and ‘familiar face’ recognition.

In addition to its range of products for home use, Nest devices also work in a commercial space where security and efficiency is just as important.
